Sri Lanka expert Eden Villas adds four new properties

Eden Villas, the leading luxury villa expert in Sri Lanka, has introduced four new properties to its collection of dazzling houses along the island’s southern coast.

Villa M, Talpe - Brand new hilltop villa

It’s all about adventure at Villa M, a property created in a mix of architectural styles within an incredible 9,000sqm walled garden. Cool, contemporary buildings emerge from swaying palm trees in this hilltop location. Plenty of comfortable, secluded spaces offer views over the 13-metre pool, gardens, a private swimmable lake and the ocean beyond.

At the top of the land is the living / dining pavilion which also contains the open plan kitchen. You’ll find the swimming pool and kid-friendly seating on this level too, and an open sided games pavilion, with pool table. The activities don’t stop there - this house comes complete with a slack line, trampoline and even a purpose-built, flood-lit skate park! There are five beautiful ensuite master suites, sleeping up to ten people. A house team including private chef are always on hand.

The hilltop setting of Villa M offers blissful sunrise views and the villa is located close to some of the best surf breaks, beach bars and lively eateries on Sri Lanka’s superb south coast. The UNESCO world heritage city of Galle is 6km away.

Eden Villas (www.edenvillas.com) offers nightly rates at Villa M from £564. Sleeps ten.

Suduwella House, Tangalle - Brand new beach villa

Suduwella House is a newly built villa furnished to the highest standards, located in the middle of a private two-acre plot within walking distance of one of the most beautiful unspoilt bays along the south of Sri Lanka, shared with five star hotel, Amanwella.

Sleeping up to eight people, plus a cot, each of the four king-sized air-conditioned bedrooms come with ensuite bathrooms, some with open air showers, and private terraces.  A large open-plan veranda with huge comfortable sofas, handmade cushions and a dining table for up to 12 overlooks the pool and garden, and is a lovely space to relax with friends and family. Surrounded by fine art, the high vaulted ceiling with overhanging fans and titanium floor ensures this space is cool, even in the midday heat. Steps lead down to the 12-metre swimming pool, surrounded by a large sunbathing deck and plenty of sun loungers.

Sudewella House comes with a cook who makes delicious local Sri Lankan cuisine and European dishes too. Bicycles are on hand to explore the local area on two wheels.

Eden Villas (www.edenvillas.com) offers nightly rates at Suduwella House from £391. Sleeps eight.

Villa RH, Habaraduwa - Historic house, new to Eden Villas

This is a serene and secluded old house enjoying far-reaching views across rice fields, just a short drive to beautiful white sand beaches. Beautifully renovated, this is a characterful Walawwa house from the Dutch period, with high wooden ceilings and king trusses, terracotta tiles, antique doors and windows, hand-picked antiques and art.

The house has five air-conditioned bedrooms, four in the main house and one set slightly apart, all ensuite, sleeping ten (up to 16 can be accommodated when using three single beds and bunk beds perfect for children). A main covered veranda faces west, offering panoramic views across the rice fields. It is a relaxing place from which to watch abundant wildlife, including the dancing peacocks, kingfishers and water buffalo, as well as the rice farmers go about their task. A second veranda faces the large garden, perfect for soccer or cricket. Between the two spaces is an internal living room for kicking back and relaxing.

Outside, the infinity pool sits alongside the paddy field, an oasis surrounded by lush greenery and palm trees. The villa is just a 15-minute walk to a picture perfect tropical beach, passing the local temple, verdant rice paddies and local shops and houses, offering a more authentic slice of Sri Lanka. Staff in the house include a private chef, who can prepare on-point western dishes as well as excellent local cuisine.

Eden Villas (www.edenvillas.com) offers nightly rates at Villa RH from £426. Sleeps 16.

Villa One, Galle - Beach house on a lagoon, new to Eden Villas

Villa One’s tropical gardens, generous surroundings and beautiful turquoise sea views immediately puts guests at ease. A soft sandy beach is directly accessible from the villa and is one of the island’s finest; typically deserted, the sea here is superb for swimming as it is protected by an offshore coral reef. The elegant design of this property was inspired by sketches of beautiful Dutch-period buildings in Barbara Sansoni’s classic book Viharas and Verandas of Ceylon, and was the first to be built on this stretch of coastline more than 40 years ago. The interior design echoes the villa’s simplistic build and suitably equips it with only the most essential furnishings, many of which are strikingly beautiful Dutch period antiques.

There are five airy, ensuite bedrooms which can comfortably sleep ten people. A large garden and huge living room provide the luxury of space where company or quietude can be found. The ocean terrace is without a doubt one of Sri Lanka’s most splendid spots for savouring sensational sundowners beside the sea. A favourite with families, children will love the villa’s spacious grounds and the lagoon-like sea that can be swum in year-round, while serenity seekers will adore its privacy and seclusion.

As with most Eden Villas properties, Villa One comes with an excellent chef who can prepare both local Sri Lankan cuisine and western dishes too, specialising in seafood.

Eden Villas (www.edenvillas.com) offers nightly rates at Villa One from £478. Sleeps ten.
