Inhabit Hotels Announces B-Corp™ Certification for Inhabit, Southwick Street

A milestone in the company’s journey to become an established wellness and mindful brand – in the community and beyond.

Inhabit Hotels, the urban-wellness hotel brand, announces its flagship property, Inhabit, Southwick Street, has been certified as B Corporation™ (B Corp™). One of the first London hotels to achieve this positive marker, the certification marks Inhabit Hotels’ dedication to guests, employees, social enterprises and the environment.

Since opening Inhabit, Southwick Street in 2019, the Inhabit brand has created the foundations and developed brand pillars that strongly align with the B Corp™ process, as well as establishing itself as a leader in sustainable and mindful practices. The brand also opened its second hotel, Inhabit, Queen’s Gardens in the summer of 2022, which has further expanded Inhabit’s mission to create restorative, environmentally and socially-conscious places to stay in the city.

The new B Corp™ Status follows Inhabit, Southwick Street’s Green Key certification award back in 2020, months after opening. From the beginning, the brand has monitored its supply chain, environmental footprint and has had a desire to create social impact.

The brand has been through a rigorous process to assess its operations and business model across the five impact areas, Customers, Community, Environment, Workers and Governance and has received verified scores on its B Impact Assessment.

“This is a huge milestone for Inhabit and our first property, further strengthening our vision to be a brand that strives for change for good. We believe in enhancing green initiatives, reducing consumption levels and being a responsible business for all stakeholders. This latest impact report and certification from B Corp™ is just the beginning,” say Inhabit Hotels co-founders, Nadira and Rahim Lalji.  “It is a huge achievement to join the community with over 6,500 other like-minded brands and be part of this crucial movement”.

Inhabit Hotels is committed to its customers by providing an urban sanctuary for busy travellers, offering conscious and health-inducing stays with access to its blissful spa and wellness centre, Inhale at Inhabit which guests staying at both properties can use. The first London hotel to offer treatments by GAIA Skincare, Inhale’s spa offering includes a varied schedule of holistic classes, such as Hatha and Yin Yoga and mindfulness sessions run by resident experts. Guests can also choose to immerse themselves in a book in the hotel libraries, or join a mindful walk in some of the city’s lush and green open spaces and nourish the body and soul in the plant-based restaurant, Yeotown, available at both properties.

Long-term partnerships with local businesses and social enterprises are a key part of the Inhabit philosophy and journey to B Corp™. The brand has aligned itself with London-based brands such as Aerende, to purchase cushion covers supporting mental health projects and Kalinko, whose handcrafted rattan products made in Myanmar feature in guest rooms.  London-based workshop Goldfinger is a key partner for the hotel brand. The social enterprise produces bespoke furniture items and educates disadvantaged young people on woodwork through its academy. The brand has created beautiful items for both properties, designed to last a lifetime.

Inhabit also works with socially-conscious partners such as Social Supermarket, BELU Water, Who Gives a Crap and Granby Works, with a goal to collaborate with at least 100 social enterprises by the end of 2023.

In a commitment to green initiatives and aligning with the national Net Zero strategy, Inhabit has disclosed full details in the B Corp™ Impact Assessment on its Energy and Carbon usage, moving to 100% LED lighting and using at least 50% renewable energy. HEPA air filtration systems are present on each floor in both hotels, ensuring reduced pollution and virus exposure to guests.

Striving to create an inclusive and respectful workplace, Inhabit is dedicated to caring for its workforce. Staying true to its brand goal to be a wellness and mindful business, employees can access mindfulness training as part of development opportunities. The hospitality brand partners with organisations such as Women in Travel and Saira Hospitality, to get more individuals trained in hospitality, bettering their careers with mentoring and dedicated training.
