Casa Sintra, Greater Lisbon, Portugal
Casa Sintra was designed by its design-minded owners and Frederico Valsassina, a well-known architect. It’s a striking, modern house, elevated from the ground because of the humidity in the region, with expansive interior spaces surrounded by pine trees - there are around 400 on the property. At sunset, the sun filters through all of the pine trees and there’s a very unique light in the house. There are four bedrooms. Children will find plenty of places to play, including a tennis court, a big trampoline and a grassy soccer field. Casa Sintra is around 15 minutes’ drive from Sintra, 25 minutes from Cascais and 40 minutes from Lisbon.

70s Modernist Villa, Tenerife, Spain
An oceanfront family holiday home packed with original artwork and interesting design touches, on the northeast coast of Tenerife. Unlike most new villas, the walls are painted a soft grey in more of a South American style and the property has a cool, vintage aesthetic. There's a cellar carved into the rocks, with a private bar and children's play area (to keep all ages happy!). The owners are an architect and a decorator / collector couple, and they have infused the property with their unique style and personal artefacts. The villa has a round swimming pool, plus a natural pool that’s refreshed by the ocean waves. It’s situated in El Poris, a very small but beloved area popular with the people of Santa Cruz who come here for weekend escapes. There are no big hotels, just small beach bars and restaurants.

Naousa Villa, Paros, Greece
Naousa Villa is a beautifully restored villa with a saltwater pool overlooking the sea. It is set among exotic Mediterranean gardens on the edge of the historic village of Naousa on Paros island. It has been designed with a contemporary interior that retains the simplicity of local architectural traditions. Most of the buildings in Naousa are protected and there are limits in terms of what can be done architecturally. As a result, most of the contemporary interventions are in the interior — the fireplace, the pivoting oak doors and the sliding doors — as well as in the design of the swimming pool. There’s a roughness, which is part of the Cycladic identity, but also a sophistication in the contemporary décor.
